Labelling

Thinking trap quiz

What’s going on:

Labelling is an extreme form of overgeneralisation, it occurs when you attach a negative label about yourself or someone else rather than acknowledge it was just a single event or mistake. Everyone makes mistakes and we’re way too complex to be described by one word.

Labelling is all about creating hopelessness. If something is our identity then there is nothing we can do about it.

Example:

He’s a jerk

Replace with:

He made a bad choice on that occasion.
