  • Zippy’s Friends

    Zippy’s Friends is a school based social emotional learning programme for 5-7 year olds. The programme is taught to the whole class by teachers trained in Zippy’s Friends in the UK and internationally. Zippy’s Friends is based around a series of stories and the programme has 24 sessions of 45 minutes.

  • FRIENDS Resilience (Fun Friends, FRIENDS for Life and My FRIENDS Youth )

    The Fun FRIENDS Program was developed by Dr Paula Barrett to help guide the social and emotional development of children aged 4 to 7 by using fun, play-based group activities. Fun FRIENDS nurtures the child’s development by teaching them to engage resilience early on, encouraging them to thrive and smoothly transition into school life.

    FRIENDS for Life is a social skills and resilience building program that has been recognised by the World Health Organisation as an effective means to prevent anxiety for children aged 8-11.

    My FRIENDS Youth is a group-based program that equips participants with the necessary tools to overcome new challenges that are commonly experienced by the 12- to 15-year old’s.

  • ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistants)

    An educational psychology led intervention for promoting the emotional wellbeing of children and young people. ELSAs are Emotional Literacy Support Assistants. They are teaching assistants who have received specific additional training from educational psychologists from whom they receive on going supervision following training. Their role is to support children and young people in school to understand and regulate their own emotions whilst also respecting the feelings of those around them.

  • Thrive Approach

    Through online tools, training and mentoring, Thrive support schools in learning about the emotional and social development relevant to a child’s age. They also help schools to understand a child’s challenging or troubling behaviour as communication. Every child gets an individual plan and teachers are given suggestions for activities and strategies to support the plan. Schools can review the child’s progress at regular intervals and assess and monitor their progress.

  • Worth-it: Wellbeing & Resilience

    Worth-it Positive Education is a Community Interest Company supporting organisations, practitioners and peer champions to apply evidence-based positive psychology and coaching approaches that prevent mental health problems and improve the mental wellbeing of children and young people.

    Worth-it have developed a number of large scale social impact programmes to prevent mental health problems in children and young people, through both direct interventions and workforce development to increase the capacity and capability of the children’s workforce. They have collaborated on targeted interventions for young people at risk of developing mental health problems, becoming NEET and committing crime.

  • DEAL Resources (Developing Emotional Awareness and Listening)

    DEAL is a free teaching resource aimed at students aged approximately 14 and over and inclusive of all abilities and learning styles. It has been developed by Samaritans in consultation with young people and schools across the UK and Republic of Ireland.

  • Mindfulness in Schools (.b and .paws curriculum)

    MiSP is the most established provider of mindfulness training and curricula for schools. The programme aims to help pupils flourish academically, socially and emotionally.

    Established by teachers from amongst the country’s most successful schools, Mindfulness in Schools Project (MiSP) aims to improve the lives of children by making a genuine, positive difference to their mental health and wellbeing.

  • Massage in Schools

    The Massage in Schools Programme (MISP) is a peer massage programme for children aged between 4-12 (with adaptations for 2-3 year olds) that’s helping people all over the world.

    MISP is not intended as a therapy, rather it aims to promote the wellbeing of children in the knowledge that nurturing touch is a basic need and a powerful tool to help children develop into healthy, well-balanced human beings. It has been developed as an inclusive whole school strategy for reducing children’s stress levels, aggression and bullying, and is also implemented in other childcare settings such as nurseries, after school clubs, community groups and families

  • Circle Time (Jenny Mosley Resources)

    A highly successful Whole School Approach from Jenny Mosley to behaviour management, wellbeing (see wellbeing training in primary schools and staff wellbeing), self-esteem and social competencies. Endorsed by governments and implemented in the UK and internationally, Jenny’s educational model is designed to release excellence in both staff and children. Based on a background of teaching experience, research, consultation and collaboration, the Jenny Mosley Whole School Systems are for Early Years settings, primary and secondary schools.

  • Bounce Forward & Penn Resiliency Programme UK

    Bounce forward provide schools training, skills and resources to build their young people’s resilience.

    They deliver flexible, practical programmes that transform behaviour and learning. Training courses allow participants to receive extensive coaching and feedback from a qualified training team.

    The Penn Resilience Programme (PRP) is Bounce Back’s most intensive course and they are the only institution in Europe licensed to deliver it. Once completed, practitioners receive a lifetime license to teach the PRP to children and young people. PRP is 18 evidenced based lessons aimed at 11-13 year olds. The lessons are easily adapted to be taught in primary school and in non-school settings. There are 1200 certified PRP Teachers in 400 schools across the UK.

    Lessons teach essential resilience skills and competencies that are useful in and out of school. Students will learn about the link between thoughts, feelings and behaviour. They will develop an understanding about different habits of thinking and how some thinking is helpful and some not so much. Resilience skills will enable them to think flexibly and accurately as a route to problem solving, overcoming the difficulties they face and making the most of opportunity.

  • Relax Kids

    The Relax Kids programme uses movement, games, stretching, breathing, peer massage, positive affirmations and visualisations, to help develop children’s concentration, self-esteem and confidence, as well as improving their peer relationships and social skills, all whilst having lots of fun.

    Staff training is available which has been endorsed by child psychologists, therapists, social workers, teachers, learning mentors and SENCOs. Relax Kids also have a range of high quality relaxation and mindfulness products including books, CDs and positive affirmation cards. These are used to support the classes and can be used at home and within school.

  • Solution Focussed BRIEF

    BRIEF are the world’s leading centre for solution focused practice in therapy and counselling as well as in coaching, leadership, team building and conflict resolution.

    The Solution Focused approach was developed in America in the 1980s by Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg. After spending many years studying problem behaviour and trying to change it they switched to studying 'solution behaviour' and how to promote it!

    BRIEF’s training programme is the most extensive in the world providing inspiration to front-line workers in health, education and social care as well as to senior executives in both public and private enterprise.

  • Head Space

    Headspace is a free application that teaches you how to meditate offering guided meditations, animations, articles and videos. Headspace for Kids focusses on five areas (Calm, Focus, Kindness, Sleep and Wake). Users can enjoy fun, engaging activities that teach the basics of mindfulness. They’ll practice breathing exercises, visualizations and even try some focus-based meditation. Of course, different exercises work best for different ages so Headspace have customized the sessions for three age groups: 5 and under, 6-8 and 9-12.

  • Anna Freud: Schools in Mind

    Schools in Mind is a free network for school staff and allied professionals which shares practical, academic and clinical expertise regarding the wellbeing and mental health issues that affect schools. The network provides a trusted source of up-to-date and accessible information and resources that school leaders, teachers and support staff can use to support the mental health and wellbeing of the children and young people in their care.

    Child mental health experts at the Anna Freud Centre have developed a booklet series aimed at supporting all staff working in school settings.

  • Emotion Coaching

    Emotion Coaching UK has been set up to promote Emotion Coaching as a way of supporting and sustaining children and young people's emotional and behavioural wellbeing.

    Emotion Coaching UK develops and provides training and consultancy and can provide introductory training for educational establishments and other groups where adults interact with children and young people (e.g. teachers, health visitors, school nurses, youth workers).

  • Keys to Happier Living Toolkit

    The Keys to Happier Living Toolkit is an engaging, accessible and evidence-based programme to promote the emotional wellbeing and resilience of children aged 7-11.

    The Toolkit is based on the Action for Happiness ‘Ten Keys to Happier Living’ framework and a pilot project showed that it led to significant improvements in wellbeing relative to a control group. The toolkit has also been awarded the PSHE Association Quality Mark.

    The Keys to Happier Living Resource Pack for schools consists of:

    Toolkit for Teachers: full teaching materials covering an initial assembly and 11 subsequent lessons, with extensive downloadable resources & ideas for ongoing reinforcement (£50 each)

    Journal for Children: each child receives their own journal to help embed learning (£4 each)

    Journal for Adults: to help staff embed the ideas in their own lives too (£3.50 each)
