Blaming

Thinking trap quiz

What’s going on:

Blaming is the opposite of personalisation. Blaming is simply saying someone or something is responsible for something bad that happened to them. In this way, the person avoids taking personal responsibility, making way for a “victim mentality.” They often feel angry and resentful.

Example 1:

He makes me feel bad about myself.

Example 2:

She makes me feel inadequate.

Replace with:

By understanding that no one can make us feel anything – we make ourselves feel things – we can begin to break the blaming cycle.
